Halloween Ghost Cloth

Skill Level 2-Easy

Simple shaping, and color changes.

 

Materials:

1 ball Peaches & Crème, worsted weight, color #1-white

small amount of Peaches & Crème, worsted weight, color #2- black

 5.0mm Crochet hook- or size needed to obtain gauge

2 yarn bobbins 

tapestry needle for hiding ends.

 

Gauge:

13 sc x 14 rows = 4”

 

Stitches/Abbreviations Used: 

ch- chain 

sc- single crochet

dc- double crochet 

hdc- half-double crochet 

Sdcr- single crochet decrease-  insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yo, pull through loops on hook. 

slst- slip stitch 

 

Special Instructions:

 

In areas where two colors are used, all stitches are singe crochet (sc), or single crochet decreases (Sdcr).  In order to switch colors in your work the last yarn over of the last stitch in any given colour should be worked with the next color.  These instructions will not be re-stated in pattern directions, but will be written as 2W, Sdcr-W, 2B,Sdcr-W, 2W [2 dc in white, Sdcr in white 2 dc in black, Sdcr in white 2 dc in white], numbers will change as appropriate. 

Do not forget to ch-1 at the beginning of each row, unless otherwise stated. 

When white is not in use it should be carried inside the black stitches.  When black is not in use it should be dropped to the back of your work. 

 

Directions: 

Wind 2 bobbins with black yarn. 

With White: 

Ch 27 

Row 1) sc in 2nd ch from hook, and every ch across. (26 sc) 

Row 2) ch1, turn, sc across (26 sc) 

Repeat row 2 until piece is 4” long

 

Work with 2 colors will now begin.  Make sure you understand the special instructions 

Row 3) [right side} 12W, 3B, 11W

Row 4) 10W, 5B, 11W

Row 5) 10W, 7B, 9W

Row 6) 10W, 5B, 11W

Row 7) 12W, 3B, 11W 

Leaving a long tail, cut black, retain bobbin to be rejoined in row 10.  Both bobbins will be needed in rows 10-12. 

Row 8) 26W

Row 9) 1W, Sdcr-W, 20W, Sdcr-W, 1W (24sc)

Row 10) [wrong side] 1W, Sdcr-W, 5W, 1B, 5W, [attach second bobbin]1B, 6W, Sdcr-W, 1W (22sc)

Row 11) 1W, Sdcr-W, 4W, 3B, 3W, 3B, 3W, Sdcr-W, 1W (20sc)

Row 12) 1W, Sdcr-W, 3W, 1B, 5W, 1B, 4W, Sdcr-W, 1W (18sc)

 

The rest of the cloth is made entirely with white.  Leaving long tails, remove both black bobbins. 

Row 13) sc, Sdcr, 12sc, Sdcr, sc (16 sc)

Row 14) sc, Sdcr, 10sc, Sdcr, sc(14 sc)

Row 15) sc, Sdcr, 8sc, Sdcr, sc (12 sc)

Row 16) DO NOT ch1, turn, slst into first sc, 2sc, 2hdc, 2dc, 2hdc, 2sc, slst (12 stitches)

 

Cut and secure yarn.

 

The final row is worked across the bottom of row 1 as follows:

Attach yarn to right most stitch of base of row 1 (this may be done from either side of your work) ch3, (this counts as 1st stich), dc, ** hdc, 2sc, hdc, 2dc** to end (26 stitches)

 

Cut and secure yarn.  Weave in all ends.  Use extra long tails of black yarn to cover any white that comes into the edges of the black areas.
